Clark County Tree Giveaway Offers 2,300 Free Trees

The Clark County tree giveaway will distribute 2,300 free trees through the Community Canopy Project, helping Southern Nevada residents create shade, cool their neighborhoods and grow a healthier, more resilient urban forest for future generations.

LAS VEGAS — The Clark County tree giveaway will help residents bring shade to their homes and neighborhoods this fall. The county plans to distribute 2,300 free trees through its Community Canopy Project, focusing first on areas that face the strongest urban heat island effects.

Clark County Environment and Sustainability is leading the effort with the Arbor Day Foundation. The program aims to expand Southern Nevada’s urban forest while helping residents add shade, beauty and value to their properties.

Free trees for neighborhoods hit hardest by heat

Residents in 12 priority ZIP codes can claim a free tree before the giveaway opens countywide. Those ZIP codes are 89014, 89121, 89119, 89103, 89154, 89169, 89030, 89147, 89039, 89046, 89028 and 89029.

These communities experience heavier heat impacts because pavement, buildings and other hard surfaces absorb warmth throughout the day. Trees can provide welcome shade around homes, sidewalks and gathering areas. As they grow, they can also support healthier and more comfortable neighborhoods.

“Expanding access to trees is a powerful way to make our neighborhoods cooler, healthier and more resilient,” Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft said. He added that the partnership will help residents grow community green space at no cost, especially in areas most vulnerable to extreme heat.

Clark County tree giveaway begins Sept. 3

The fall giveaway will open to every Clark County resident at 8 a.m. PDT on Thursday, Sept. 3. Available varieties include Chinese pistache, Elberta peach, Russian pomegranate, southern live oak and bubbalicious desert willow, among other choices.

County crews will deliver more than 2,000 trees to residents’ homes. However, supplies are limited, so interested residents should review the options and reserve a tree as soon as they become eligible.

Residents may visit ArborDay.org/ClarkCountyDES to check availability and claim a tree. A complete list of varieties and program information is also available through the Stay Cool Clark County website.

Fall Fest offers another pickup opportunity

Naft will bring the Community Canopy Project to his annual Fall Fest at Laurelwood Park on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. About 75 pre-reserved trees will be ready for pickup during the community event.

In addition, organizers will offer 25 trees at Fall Fest on a first-come, first-served basis. The event gives residents another chance to take part while learning more about the county’s heat relief work.

The Clark County tree giveaway continues across Southern Nevada. By the end of 2026, it expects to have distributed nearly 9,000 trees to Clark County residents. Moreover, the county plans to plant another 4,500 trees through 2027.

Those numbers show how a free backyard tree can support a much larger community goal. Each new tree can bring shade today while helping Clark County create greener, more resilient neighborhoods for many hot summers to come.
