LAS VEGAS —Credit One Bank employees welcomed several adoptable dogs from The Animal Foundation on August 26 during a National Dog Day celebration at the bank’s Exchange Annex.. The Credit One Bank National Dog Day event combined employee engagement, a pet supply drive and an opportunity to help shelter animals find permanent homes.
I had the chance to meet Melissa Schneeman, spokesperson for Credit One Bank, during the gathering at the company’s Exchange Annex. Schneeman discussed the dogs attending the event, the shelter’s urgent needs and the different ways Southern Nevada residents can help.

Adoptable Dogs Meet Credit One Bank Employees
Five dogs from The Animal Foundation visited Credit One Bank employees during the celebration. Schneeman explained that organizers would not know which dogs were attending until the day of the event. However, every visiting dog would be available for adoption.
Credit One Bank employees also participated in a company-wide supply drive throughout August. The drive collected useful items for dogs and other animals waiting at the local shelter.
The workplace visit gave employees a personal look at the shelter’s work across Southern Nevada. It also created a relaxed setting where staff members could ask questions, meet available dogs and understand how donated supplies support daily animal care needs.

Melissa Schneeman Addresses Urgent Shelter Needs
When asked about the shelter’s most urgent needs, Schneeman pointed to medium and large dogs. These dogs often wait longer for foster or adoptive homes than small dogs and puppies.
“Large dogs have so much love to give, but they usually wait longer to be adopted,” Schneeman said.
Finding foster families can give these dogs additional time. Adoption, meanwhile, gives a shelter dog the permanent home it deserves.

Residents Can Help Without Adopting
Schneeman stressed that people do not have to adopt an animal to make a meaningful difference. The Animal Foundation needs donations, volunteers and foster families throughout the year.
Residents can purchase supplies through the shelter’s Amazon Wish List. Helpful items include dog and cat food, clean linens, treats, training pads, collars and enrichment toys.
Volunteers and foster families also provide essential support. Schneeman explained that no previous experience is needed because The Animal Foundation provides training and guidance.
“If you love animals and want to help, there’s an opportunity for you at the shelter,” she said.

Choosing the Right Shelter Dog
Schneeman encouraged prospective adopters to select a dog that matches their lifestyle. Families should consider their schedules, activity levels, living arrangements and home environments before making a commitment.
The Animal Foundation has dogs with a wide range of personalities. Some make excellent couch companions, while others enjoy running, playing and staying active. The shelter also has plenty of affectionate goofballs waiting to meet the right family.
After adoption, a dog needs time to decompress and adjust. Schneeman advised families to remain patient while their new pets learn their surroundings and begin feeling safe.
Some dogs may adjust within days. However, others need several weeks or even months. A steady routine, patience and realistic expectations can help build trust.

Credit One Bank Continues Local Partnership
Credit One Bank became a major supporting partner of The Animal Foundation in April 2026. The bank also serves as presenting Top Dog Sponsor of Best in Show, the shelter’s annual fundraiser.
The National Dog Day gathering brought that partnership directly to employees. Most importantly, the event connected adoptable dogs with new people while drawing attention to the shelter’s ongoing needs.
One adoption, foster home, volunteer shift or donation can change an animal’s future. Schneeman’s answers made that message clear: everyone can play a role in helping Southern Nevada’s shelter animals.
