The Las Vegas Aviators have turned their six-game road series against the Albuquerque Isotopes into one of their strongest stretches of August.
Las Vegas won the first four games of the series from Tuesday through Friday at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park. The Aviators now enter the weekend looking to finish the trip with two more strong performances. The series continues Saturday night before Sunday’s finale.
Aviators Open Series With 5-3 Victory
Las Vegas started the week Tuesday with a 5-3 victory. The Aviators produced enough offense to take the opener while keeping Albuquerque from putting together a late comeback. MiLB’s official game record confirms the 5-3 final.
The win gave Las Vegas an immediate advantage in the six-game series. It also set the tone for an Aviators lineup that continued producing runs over the next several games.
Las Vegas Offense Explodes Wednesday
The Aviators returned Wednesday and turned the second game into an offensive battle. Las Vegas scored 12 runs in a 12-8 victory, giving the club consecutive wins to begin its stay in Albuquerque.
Las Vegas has shown throughout the season that its lineup can score in several ways. That ability becomes especially valuable during a long road series, when both teams see the same pitching staffs for six consecutive days.
Extra Innings Deliver Thursday Drama
Thursday brought a much different challenge. The Aviators needed 11 innings before pulling out a 10-7 victory.
Las Vegas stayed aggressive late and found a way to break through when the game reached extra innings. The result gave the Aviators their third consecutive victory and showed the club could win even when a game stretched well beyond nine innings.
The week has also brought several roster changes. The Athletics sent Denzel Clarke to Las Vegas on a rehabilitation assignment Tuesday. The organization also optioned pitchers Mason Barnett and Seth Johnson to the Aviators during the series.
Four-Run Ninth Inning Powers Friday Win
Friday provided another dramatic finish. Las Vegas defeated Albuquerque 6-4, giving the Aviators four consecutive victories to begin the series.
The Aviators entered the ninth inning trailing 3-2 before their offense came alive. Las Vegas scored four runs in the inning and turned a one-run deficit into a three-run advantage.
Albuquerque answered with one run in the bottom of the ninth, but the Aviators shut down the rally and completed another road victory.
Two Games Remain in Albuquerque
Las Vegas returns to the field Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Mountain Time. Albuquerque will play as the Mariachis de Nuevo México during Lowrider Night. Sunday’s series finale begins at 1:35 p.m.
The Aviators have already guaranteed themselves a winning series. However, two more victories would complete an impressive six-game sweep and send Las Vegas home with considerable momentum.
Aviators Return Home Tuesday
After Sunday’s finale, Las Vegas will return to Las Vegas Ballpark. The Aviators open their next six-game series Tuesday, August 25, against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.
Four straight victories have already made Albuquerque a successful stop. Now the Aviators have an opportunity to make the weekend even better as the season enters its final weeks.
