Las Vegas beats Indiana in overtime before a short-handed lineup falls to New York
The Las Vegas Aces road trip delivered two very different results as the team continued a demanding August schedule.
Las Vegas produced one of its most dramatic victories of the season Thursday, Aug. 6, defeating the Indiana Fever 86-84 in overtime at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Three days later, a short-handed Aces lineup closed its five-game road trip with a 111-71 loss to the New York Liberty at Barclays Center.
Gray delivers unforgettable finish against Indiana
The Aug. 6 game appeared to be slipping away early as Indiana built a 20-point first-half advantage. However, Las Vegas refused to let the game get out of reach.
Chelsea Gray ultimately delivered when the Aces needed her most.
Gray hit a clutch 3-pointer at the end of regulation to force overtime. Then, with the extra period coming to an end, she struck again with another buzzer-beating shot to give Las Vegas the 86-84 victory.
A’ja Wilson finished with 26 points and 13 rebounds for another double-double. Jackie Young added 22 points and nine assists, while NaLyssa Smith contributed 14 points and nine rebounds. The victory improved Las Vegas to 22-9.

Road trip catches up with Las Vegas
The schedule offered little recovery time. Las Vegas traveled to Minnesota and lost 98-87 on Aug. 8 before facing New York the following afternoon.
For the Liberty game, Las Vegas rested Wilson, Gray and Young. That left a much younger lineup facing one of the league’s strongest teams.
New York took advantage.
Marine Johannès scored a career-high 27 points and connected on seven 3-pointers as the Liberty rolled to a 111-71 victory.
Ta’Niya Latson led Las Vegas with 20 points. Mai Yamamoto added 16 points and six assists, while Justine Pissott finished with 11 points.

Aces return home
Despite consecutive losses to Minnesota and New York, the Aces finished the road swing at 22-11. They remain firmly in the playoff race as the regular season enters its final stretch.
The Las Vegas Aces road trip showed both sides of a championship-caliber season. The comeback against Indiana demonstrated the experience and resilience of the veteran lineup. The New York loss showed how difficult a compressed WNBA schedule can become when several stars are unavailable.
